Mother's Bread

For 6 loaves
- 6 cups milk
- 4 Tbs shortening
- 4 Tbs yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 6 tsp salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 12+ cups flour
For 4 loaves
- 4 cups milk
- 3 Tbs shortening
- 3 Tbs yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 9+ cups flour
Scald milk. When milk is hot add shortening. Put yeast and water in a small bowl.
Mix milk, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add 1-2 cups of flour if still too warm. Then add yeast to dough. Stir in flour until it becomes a soft dough. The dough should not be sticky. Grease your hands and knead the dough. Let raise until double. Knead 10 min, raise until double. Knead 10 min and put in bread pans, raise until almost double. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 30 min.
